 Dr. Goodwin graduated with honors from highly respected training programs at Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute in New York City. Blanton-Peale Institute was established during the Great Depression by psychiatrist Smiley Blanton and pastor Norman Vincent Peale of the Marble Collegiate Church. Together they founded the Institute to train ministers clinically to help address the widespread fear, depression and panic of the devastated New Yorkers who had lost everything they owned after the crash of the New York stock market.
At the time of the founding of the Institute, Dr. Peale was the revered minister of Marble Collegiate Church, later writing his now classic book, The Power of Positive Thinking. Dr. Blanton was a top-notch practicing psychiatrist when the two launched their project to prepare qualified ministers of the greater New York area to become psychotherapists. Blanton-Peale continues today to graduate classes of clinically trained ministers, social workers, psychologists and other helping professionals from all over the world.
Dr. Goodwin joined the ranks of graduates from the Institute in 1993. Already having received the Master of Divinity (1987) and the Master of Theology (1988) from Princeton Theological Seminary and having been ordained to continue her studies in the area of psychology and religion by the mainline Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), she received her PhD from Princeton in 1995. Over the years she has practiced privately in New York, Princeton and Freehold. She still practices in Princeton and this year (2007) she is pleased and excited to announce the opening of her office in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey. Dr. Goodwin is a frequent visitor to the faculty of Union Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Columbia University in New York City, where she teaches courses for the Psychiatry and Religion Department. She is known for her exceptional intuition, intelligence and love of helping her clients and her students to have faith in themselves and to live their lives in new, healthy and joyous ways.
